Limon, içsel özellikleri bakımından bakteri üremesine uygun bir zemindir ve bu da küflenmeyi kaçınılmaz hale getirmektedir.
- Özellikle kesilmiş olan bir limon, buzdolabında ya da oda sıcaklığında diğer gıdalar ile temas halinde ise küflenme ortaya çıkabilir. Buzdolabının sebzelik bölümünde farklı sebze ve meyveler ile bir arada bulunan ve temas halinde olan bütün limonlar için de bu durum geçerlidir.
- Özellikle asitli besinler ve turunçgillerin limon ile aynı buzdolabı bölmesinde saklanmaması gerekir. Limon ne kadar tek başına muhafaza edilirse çürüme ve küflenme de o kadar geç meydana gelecektir.
- Satın alınan limonların evdeki tüketim süresi de küflenme konusunda etkilidir. Bir hafta içinde tüketilmeyen ve bir sonraki haftaya kadar buzdolabında kalan limonların küflenmesinin yanı sıra, besin değerleri de düşecektir.
- Limonların muhafaza edildiği buzdolabının da küflenmeye etkisi vardır. Eski tip buzdolaplarında yeterli soğuk ayarı ve saklamaya uygun koşullar olmadığında da limonların küflenmesi daha erken gerçekleşecektir.
- Satın alma esnasında limonların taze ve sert olması, kullanım ömrünü uzatır. Limon dolapta beklerken de rengi koyu sarıya döner ve sulanır. Bu nedenle özellikle kış aylarında taze ve ince kabuklu limonların satın alınması önerilmektedir.
Küflenme Nasıl Önlenir?
Limon, hava ile ne kadar az temas halinde olursa küflenme olasılığı da o kadar azalacaktır. Özellikle kesilmiş ve yarım halde bulunan limonlarda meydana gelen küflenmenin engellenebilmesi için kesilmiş halde olan limonun mutlaka kesik kısmının havasız bırakılması gerekir. Oda sıcaklığı, limonun küflenmesine zemin hazırlayan bir faktör olduğu için de tercihen buzdolabında muhafaza edilmesi önemlidir.
