Ameliyat Sonrası Ayak Şişmesi
Bacaktaki herhangi bir rahatsızlıktan ötürü geçirilen cerrahi operasyonun ardından ayakta yerçekiminden ötürü şişlik oluşabilmektedir. Yer çekimine bağlı gelişen bacak şişmesi genellikle normal kabul edilmektedir. Hatta bu sebepten uzun süre(1-2 yıl gibi) ayak şişmesi sorunu yaşanabilmektedir. Şişlik sadece yer çekimine bağlı oluşmayabilir. Cerrahi müdahale esnasında kasların, tendonların veya kemiklerin hasar alması halinde de ayak şişmesi sorunu baş gösterebilmektedir.

Ödem
Vücut dokuları arasında fazla miktarda sıvı birikmesi sonucunda oluşan şişlikler, ödem olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Daha çok ellerde, kollarda ve bacaklarda görülen ödemin en yaygın nedeni cerrahi operasyonlar yani ameliyatlardır. Ameliyat sonrası ayak şişmesi, olası ödemin göstergesi olabilir.
Eklem-Doku Hasarı
Cerrahi operasyon esnasında bacak çevresindeki eklem ve dokuların hasar alması, şişliğe sebebiyet verebilir.
Artrit
Vücut tarafından eklemlerde üretilen iltihap, artrit olarak bilinmektedir. Tek başına bir rahatsızlık olduğu söylenemez. Ameliyat sonrası ayak şişmesi şikayetinin arka planındaki neden; eklem iltihaplanması olabilir. Genellikle ağrılı şişlik şeklinde kendini belli eder.
